What Are Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars?
Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars are solid bars featuring six sides made from grade 316 stainless steel alloy, known for its superior corrosion-resistance. Their hexagonal form offers increased strength and stability over traditional round bars making these ideal for marine or chemical processing applications as well as structural and machining purposes in industries like construction, automotive and aerospace industries.
Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars are widely renowned for their exceptional corrosion-resistance. Due to the presence of molybdenum, these bars exhibit excellent resistance against various sources of corrosive attack such as chloride-ion corrosion, making them suitable for marine environments, chemical processing facilities and pharmaceutical companies.
Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars provide good to moderate machinability. Although they can be machined using conventional methods, machining these bars requires more expertise compared to some other stainless steel grades, with proper tools and techniques however, precise hex bars crafted out of this alloy can be made for engineering applications.
Weldability of Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars is another prominent characteristic. They can easily be joined using various welding techniques like arc welding, resistance welding and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Their weldability combined with corrosion resistance makes these bars highly suitable for fabricating structures and components in industries like construction, transportation and energy production.
Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars have numerous applications across different industries due to their combination of properties. Common uses for them include manufacturing components for chemical processing plants, oil and gas refineries, food processing facilities and pharmaceutical production as well as architectural applications, due to their attractive appearance and long life in exterior structures and fittings.
Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bars have become indispensable engineering components due to their corrosion resistance, machinability and weldability. Used extensively in shaft construction as fasteners, valve fittings, pump components from automotive to medical industries as well as decorative applications including handrails facades and artistic installations for which these versatile bars have proven themselves indispensable.

Melting and Casting
Steel and alloying metals are loaded into an electric arc furnace. Once in the furnace, the metal is heated to a specific temperature above its melting point, usually in excess of 2800°F.
Forming
Most cast steel is formed by hot rolling—the slab, bloom, or billet is heated and passed through large rollers, stretching out the steel into a longer, thinner form.
Heat treatment
Heat treatment strengthens rolled stainless steel by recrystallizing the deformed microstructure. Most stainless steel is heat treated by annealing.
Descaling
A rolled piece of stainless steel acquires a layer of oxidized “mill scale,” which needs to be washed away to restore a shiny surface finish.
Cutting or Machining
Stainless steel is cut to a specified shape and size. The stainless steel can be sheared with circular knives, sawed with high-speed blades, or blanked with punches.
