Cupro nickel bars (commonly referred to as copper-nickel bars) are alloyed materials comprised primarily of copper and nickel as well as other elements such as iron or manganese, known for their superior corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, strength, and impressive corrosion resistance properties. Cu-Ni bars come in various grades such as 90/10 (90% copper/10% nickel) or 70/30 (70% copper/20% nickel). However, composition may change based on desired properties for particular applications.

One of the standout features of cupro-nickel bars is their corrosion resistance, particularly in marine environments. This makes them highly sought after for applications such as seawater piping systems, offshore oil and gas platforms, and shipbuilding. Their resistance to biofouling, which is the accumulation of organisms such as barnacles and algae on underwater surfaces, further enhances their suitability for marine applications.

 Cupro Nickel Bars

Cupro-nickel bars feature excellent thermal conductivity, making them suitable for heat exchangers and condensers. Their efficient transference of heat makes them valuable components in various industries including power generation, chemical processing and HVAC (heating ventilation air conditioning) systems - especially where thermal efficiency is of critical importance.

Cupro-nickel bars also boast superior malleability and ductility, enabling them to be quickly formed into different shapes and sizes without losing structural integrity. Their malleability enables them to serve many applications including electrical components, automotive parts and coinage production. Their combination of strength and formability guarantees they can withstand mechanical stresses while upholding structural integrity.

Marine environments make use of cupro-nickel bars in construction for components like heat exchangers, condensers and piping systems due to their resistance to seawater corrosion. Their long life in harsh conditions makes them indispensable in offshore installations and naval vessels - while biofouling resistance helps minimize maintenance requirements while prolonging equipment lifespans.

Cupro-nickel bars have found widespread application in power generation systems across fossil and nuclear power plants alike, from condenser tubes and heat exchangers, through condenser tubes, condenser coils and heat exchangers, condenser piping and heat exchangers, condenser tubing as well as heat transfer mechanisms, which all help contribute to overall system efficiency and corrosion resistance ensuring reliable operations even with aggressive cooling waters.

Manufacturing Process Of Cupro Nickel Bars

Casting

Melting and Casting

Steel and alloying metals are loaded into an electric arc furnace. Once in the furnace, the metal is heated to a specific temperature above its melting point, usually in excess of 2800°F.

Forming Round Bar

Forming

Most cast steel is formed by hot rolling—the slab, bloom, or billet is heated and passed through large rollers, stretching out the steel into a longer, thinner form.

Heat Treatment

Heat treatment

Heat treatment strengthens rolled Cupro Nickel by recrystallizing the deformed microstructure. Most Cupro Nickel is heat treated by annealing.

Descaling

Descaling

A rolled piece of Cupro Nickel acquires a layer of oxidized “mill scale,” which needs to be washed away to restore a shiny surface finish.

Cutting Round Bar

Cutting or Machining

Cupro Nickel is cut to a specified shape and size. The Cupro Nickel can be sheared with circular knives, sawed with high-speed blades, or blanked with punches.
